The YA Fiction has been GENREFIED (mostly)! Each book has a colorful spine label telling you what genre the book belongs in (decisions were made). Eventually, all YA Fiction will be genrefied in the catalog using emojis that fit the color/feel of each genre, as shown by Sammy's Key. There is a bookmark designed for each genre, as seen below. The ones here are linked to reading guides (well, two are so far), but you can find the actual bookmarks along with a couple of other Sammy designs on the NEW YA shelf! Each one has Sammy's Key on the back to help you remember all the genres as you look for your next book to read. Happy Reading!

Kindness starts with you!

DPL teens found out that approximately one in five U.S. teens experiences hygiene insecurity. They lack regular access to things like soap, shampoo, & deodorant. Specifically regarding menstrual hygiene, one in three teens struggles with access and affordability of period products like pads and tampons. This is why DPL’s TAB wanted to make these kits available to teens who may need them! These items can be found in the upstairs bathroom lockers. We decided on a locker system so that taking items is an intentional act by those who really need these items rather than an impulsive grab by some of those who sometimes forget to be mindful of others. Both bathrooms have the same assortment of items; there is a sharing tub provided for items that may not be needed. While some items may seem unnecessary for to some, we wanted to ensure no one had to provide any explanation or excuse to obtain any of these items. If any teen has an idea of other things we can help them do to provide care for others, please let Misty know!
Kindness also extends to animals! Teens have gathered to create homemade treats for the animals at the Stephens County Humane Society (and also our own pets) and we will continue to do so throughout the year! Be sure to look for these opportunities to show kindness to our furry friends! Let me know other ideas
