September Teen Reads: Twilight ending with party on 9/30. Books are on their way. We will let you bedazzle your copies at the party and you can keep them! Party will celebrateSTATIC the 20th anniversary of its release with Food, Trivia Games, and a reading
All agreed this was better than bedazzling books and then reading them in October
TEEN READS INTERUPTION:
Those who finished Blythewood enjoyed it even if they couldn't join us, they made it known they not only loved it, but have already continued onto the next book in the series
I will inform everyone when their copy of Twilight is available for them to pick up!
Harry Potter Trivia Sept 5th 7pm @ Kochendorfers
Several Trivia topics were suggested: Wings of Fire, Kpop Demon Hunters, How to Train Your Dragon, Pokemon
Banned Books Week Censorship is so 1984 Oct 5th through 11th 80s themed will carry over to Halloween
DnD -like game Blood on the Clocktower Saturday, October 18th @ 3pm (after close)
Jessica stopped by to give more details on what this will be like
Stranger Foods/ Poisonous plants. Possible Alexis Nikole as guest??
They also liked the idea of creating enrichment toys for the shelter animals
I told them the guest was just a longshot!
Volunteers October 17th @ 1pm (Fall Break) Book Buddies (stuffed animal adoption)
Teens thought this would be fun and are willing to help if their schedules allow
October Teen Read: Legend? I already have multiple copies of this, but we can hold off and do this later if we wanted to lean into a classic Horror (Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Poe) or lean into the 80s and read a popular teen book from the time. We could also just do bad 80s “horror” like the first Fear Street by RL Stine or the first few that were written in 89 since they are so short.
After discussion, Fear Street was chosen and I was able to find a compendium of the first four titles!
We also talked about how most titles have had darker themes as well as again having options for younger teens (older teens work and have a harder time participating, so having book discussions for tweens (Wings of Fire, Warriors) would be a good idea.
Note to remind them that anyone can start their own book with our help, so if someone wanted to organize a Warriors Discussion group or Wings of Fire Club or ANY club (age appropriate) that will connect them with others with similar interests, I can assist with scheduling a space and finding resources.
Pumpkin Sammy contest?
Either turning pumpkins into Sammys or decorating snails for 80s halloween!
Dinovember: Land Before Time Trauma, anyone?
Teens present have SEEN Land Before Time but weren't opposed to doing this in Dinovember. We also discussed the fun of doing "Whose that Dinosaur?" and having a Dino pronunciation Bee

TAB then devolved into a Kpop Demon Hunters lecture with Misty explaining the significance and meaning behind the Tiger and Magpie in Korean art history, the importance of unity and an accessible language and even food in the way Koreans prioritize the well-being of their community over their own needs. We also discovered the "Felix effect." Also, Taylor Swift is getting married...
Your friendly DPL Teen Space snail and TAB secretary,
