Summer Reading 2025 has OFFICIALLY begun! Week one is in the books. Here's what happened so far:
Volunteens have been manning our Summer Reading Table in the middle of our lobby, and we've already had TONS of sign ups. Remember: you can sign up for Summer Reading at any point this summer, and you do not have to be signed up to participate in any crafts or programs. You do have to be signed up to get prizes for reading, so make sure you stop by to do that soon!
As you can see from the second picture, we have a packed calendar that hasn't even started yet. Monday, June 2nd will be our first program of the summer: Cupcake Decorating for adults. If you are 18 or older and you want to come decorate cupcakes, make sure you call the library to sign up because space is limited!
Staff have been rocking our summer shirts. There's a lot of cool ones this year! They'll say Color Our World or Libraries are Life (and isn't that the truth?). Pictured above are Terrie and Jessica and their Libraries are Life shirts.
Over a dozen teens met at the library on Thursday to talk sign up for the Teen Cake Off and see which RANDOM cake they'll have to decorate next week. Each team drew a random number to determine their cake pan. The pictured teen drew a book shaped cake pan (LUCKY!). Keep your eyes peeled for pictures of their creations sometime next week.
Our art prompt of the week was to create art inspired by your favorite book. And Jessica wouldn't be able to tell you what her absolute favorite book is, but she can tell you that her favorite book club book was The Removed by Brandon Hobson. She made a granny square inspired by the design of the cover! Don't forget: any art that you make this summer can be displayed in our End of Summer Art Share. Email Jessica at dploutreach@duncanok.gov to get that set up.
And last, but not least, the Summer Lunch Program with the Chickasaw Nation is well underway. We serve food from 10 AM to 1 PM every week day (except for the days we're closed.) As a reminder: the state requires first and last name of the child AND the parent/guardian this summer.
Next week, we have adult cupcake decorating on Monday, the first ever Book & Build on Tuesday, a Monet painting class for kids, a visit from D.T. Ranch Country on Thursday, and a woodworking talk on Friday! It's a packed week coming up so check our socials or the website's Summer Reading page (it's under the "attend" tab!) for more details.
Have a wonderful week, and we'll see you on Monday!
